For a rainy afternoon date in Amsterdam that involves doing something together, WONDR Experience in Amsterdam Noord is the playful option: fourteen indoor rooms, a ball pit for two, a confetti shower and a karaoke booth, followed by Pink Beach on the same site for something to eat. Meeuwenlaan 88, one metro stop from Central Station.
It works for a first date because there is always something to do with your hands and something to laugh at. It works for a tenth date for the same reason.
Why does it work as a date?
Because you are doing things, not sitting across from each other. A ball pit removes awkwardness in about four seconds. The karaoke booths fit two. The confetti shower needs one of you to trigger it for the other. The route is self-guided, so you go at your own pace and skip what you want.
Is it entirely indoors?
Yes. All fourteen rooms are in one building and the route between them is covered. From Noorderpark metro it is a five minute walk, the shortest exposed stretch you will find for an afternoon this long.
Where do we eat afterwards without going back into the rain?
Pink Beach by WONDR is on the same site: a pink indoor beach bar and brunch spot, mostly covered. It is open until 20:00 from Sunday to Thursday and until 20:30 on Friday and Saturday, with the kitchen closing at 18:30 most days and 19:00 on Friday and Saturday. Tables are held for an hour and a half and can usually be extended. You can book it on its own, without a WONDR ticket.
Is there an evening option?
Barbie: The Dream Experience, in the same building, runs adults-only sessions on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 17:00 with a welcome drink included. Twelve zones across more than 2,000 m², about 90 minutes. It is a different kind of afternoon from WONDR, and the two work in sequence.
How long should we plan?
About 90 minutes at WONDR, then as long as you like at Pink Beach. If the date is going well, Barbie adds another 90 minutes without leaving the address.
